Tyler Pennington

Tyler Pennington founded Pennington Law, PLLC in January 2013. Prior to starting the firm he worked for 18 months as an associate attorney for a small Austin law firm where he handled family, criminal and civil litigation cases.

Tyler takes pride in being a well-respected litigator, who is not afraid to take a case to trial or to challenge the trial court on appeal, but he also knows how to settle a case when that is in the client’s best interest. He can be your advocate and your voice of reason. Over 90% of his practice is referrals and he takes pride in providing hands-on representation to individuals from all walks of life.

Since being licensed he has handled hundreds of family law matters involving divorce, custody, adoption, and termination of parental rights, CPS litigation, child support and complex property division.

Along with family law cases he has also handled criminal cases ranging from Public Intoxication, DWI, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Controlled Substances, Delivery of Controlled Substances, Manslaughter, Capital Murder, Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Burglary, and Sexual Assault cases.

As an appeals attorney, he has successfully challenged trial courts, by authoring briefs and handling appeals on family and criminal cases in the 1st Court of Appeals, 3rd Court of Appeals, 14th Court of Appeals, 4th Court of Appeals, and the Texas Supreme Court.

Mr. Pennington has also been asked to speak at continuing legal education conferences due to his expertise in the legal field. He participated in the “Handling Your First (or Next) Divorce Case” seminar in January 2017 as a speaker and wrote a paper entitled “Ex-Parte Relief and What Not to Say to a Judge Ex-Parte”.

He obtained his bachelor’s of science in social psychology from Park University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in December 2006. During his undergraduate program, he worked at a non-profit early childhood center for children with special needs and at an elementary school in an autism program.

After obtaining his bachelor’s degree he attended law school at University of Missouri-Kansas City graduating in May 2010. During law school, he represented families and individuals in the Child and Family Services Clinic and also helped re-author the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association Attorney Practice Handbook on Termination of Parental Rights. He received the award of most outstanding clinic student for his work in the clinic. This is where he truly began to develop a passion for family law.

During law school, he also gained experience in criminal law spending a year and a half as an intern for the Missouri State Public Defender where he ensured that indigent individuals gained adequate legal representation for serious felony cases. He gained experience by assisting in the preparation and presentation of jury trials, drafting motions to suppress, legal research, and conducting client and witness interviews. The clinic taught Mr. Pennington that all people are entitled to competent legal representation regardless of the case.

He also served as the Secretary and then President of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society during law school where he hosted the first ever benefit concert for the society. During his time with the society, he had the opportunity to network with entertainment and sports attorneys as well as other players in the entertainment industry. Mr. Pennington has also been a musician since childhood and currently co-owns a music company with a close friend where they run studios for music production and recording along with managing and developing musicians. He also puts out his own musical projects as a producer and artist.
